An interesting weekend
by Chef Jack Fernely
I finally took a day off today. The first in quite a while.
Despite my Sous Chef slipping in grease on Saturday and losing a full pan of tri-tips right out of the oven, all is well generally and the wedding on Saturday went off almost-flawlessly, at least from my perspective.
There were far too many kids for my liking, I don't understand parents today, they seem to be clueless about their children and discipline. I cannot blame the kids, they're dragged along to these social occasions in clothes they don't like to mingle all day with people they don't know, naturally they are going to be rebellious. I felt sorry for the floor-staff having to contend with a plated service.
I Love Organic Wine - A Dolcetto From Italy
The Piedmont region of northern Italy produces many great wines, but none of them are based on the Dolcetto grape. Dolcetto means little sweet things in Italian and is the most popular red grape in Piedmont. There are seven Dolcetto wine designations based on small zones all tucked into the southeast of this beautiful region. Only an expert can tell them apart. I can think of many Piedmont wine tastings much more exciting than trying to distinguish among seven Dolcettos.
Make Your Restaurant Stand Strong amongst your Biggest CompetitorsGood business is very much about offering convenience to those that faithfully buy from you. One of the ways that restaurant owners can provide new levels of convenience to their customers is by allowing them to place takeout orders online. There is nothing like reviewing a menu in the comfort of your own home, placing an order with the simple push of a button and having food arrive at the door within minutes. That is the online takeout experience!
Large restaurant chains have been able to offer online takeout services for years and they have been very successful at it. Unfortunately, this high level of convenience has been out of reach for many independent restaurant owners for the simple fact that getting up and running on the Internet is usually a very expensive investment. Small restaurant owners have not wanted to make such a large investment during the early stages of their business.
Food Inc.So you thought you ate well because you don’t eat in fast food joints, cook your own food from the local supermarket or only eat in non chain restaurants. Well think again!
Food, Inc. exposes America's industrialized food system and its effect on our environment, health, economy and workers' rights.
I realize that many of the Chefs and cooks out there are already familiar with these issues but for those that aren’t or who haven’t spent considerable time researching the state of our food chain, Food Inc is quite an eye opener and stomach turner.
Things to do While in Florence, Italy
Florence is one of the most exciting cities in Italy with plenty to do for everyone from museums and art galleries to shopping and eating. This article will highlight some of the most interesting Florence Italy tourism spots.Easily the most visited square in Florence is the Piazza della Signoria which is an open-air sculpture exhibit. The Loggia della Signoria is home to famous statues such as a copy of Michelangelo's David and the Fountain of Neptune. This square is in the historic center of Florence and is one of the highlights of the city.
Three Traditional German Recipes
German cuisine has become very popular not only in Europe, but all over the world. Most of their food is comprised of beef, poultry, fish, or pork—pork being the most popular choice of meat. Most German foods are not spicy, although mustard is an extremely popular condiment for sausages (the form in which most of their meat is prepared). Roasted meat and stews are also very popular ways to prepare meat. In this article, I have included three of my favorite traditional German recipes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
