I suggest the following spelling of chilly as better than chilly:

chile (1st preferred)
chille (2nd preferred)
chili (3rd preferred)
chilli (4th preferred)

This is almost the only word in the entire English language dictionary with variant spellings. 1 word in over 100,000 words.

CHILI is most preferred by affectionatos, but one must allow for George's Yankee ways.

No I really mean Chilly Cookoff.

It done in February at the beach in NY.

We cook Chili but god is it Chilly out.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

Very funny!
In spanish it's "chile"
and the adjective to describe the itchy, tearfull to painfull taste is "picoso", or "chile es picante", there's no word in English to translate it, so you say either "hot" or "spicy", which neither of them are accurate.
Soon I'll be sending a new essay about a mexican delicacy, I hope my essays are being useful to all of you!
